I'm finishing a fic at the moment and have been tentatively poking around for ideas for the next one. The idea that's stuck so far is this: "Until (guy), he never believed in converting a straight man, but he's never wanted a man as bad as he wants (guy). So, he decides to give this converting thing a shot."

So. I don't know if 'converting' is really the word I would use...maybe 'seducing', but that's not right either, that's too selfish.

I know I've read fics where this happens, but I want to know from my flist if you all have read ones like this, or have ideas on how to pull it off.

It's amazing. This happens every time.

I'll go months without listening to Zooropa, and then it'll pop up on my iTunes rotation and smack me upside the head with its crazy coolness.

*sighs happily*

eta: by Zooropa I mean the album, not the song. Though I love the song to itty bitty pieces.

If there is one person or more on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

I am alive! Yes. Just, um, a bit all over the place. Mostly thanks to the fandom that is holding my brain hostage (aka Star Trek XI) and its no-less-insidious step-sibling (ST:XI RPS) I'm thinking I should blame Zachary Quinto, though, because OH HI THERE SYLAR. I SEE YOU LURKING IN DARK CORNERS ALL SMOLDERING AND SHIT. Apparently the ability to impale a piece of glass into someone's skull with just a twitch of the fingers is hot. Ah, the wonders of telekinesis. Who knew?

*needs a moment*

Yeah, so I'm trying to write a Kirk/Spock fic, which scares me. And there's a few Chris/Zach ideas. My beloved OTP (Adam/Larry) have taken to lounging on the sidelines, looking scrumptious and laughing at me.

In other news, I've found that in the series finale of Boston Legal, Denny and Alan got married! And Alan's court arguments nearly made me cry. D'awwww. I'm totally not going there, no worries. They might've been pretty years ago, but that's not an image I want anywhere near my brain.

What else... Am nearly ready to take my GRE's. Will be starting a new job July 1st.

Name your 10 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms.

* Adam/Larry (U2 RPS)
* Jack/Daniel (Stargate SG-1)
* Fraser/RayK (due South)
* Lee/Kara (Battlestar Galactica)
* Scully/Mulder (X-Files)
* Kirk/Spock (Star Trek XI)
* Billy/Dom (LOTR RPS)
* Ten/Donna (Doctor Who)
* Aubrey/Maturin (Master&Commander)
* Sirius/Remus (Harry Potter)

I really wanted to add a pairing from NCIS, but I absolutely cannot decide between Tony/Ziva and Tony/Tim. Other runners-up include Chris/Zach (Star Trek XI RPS), John/Aeryn (Farscape), Frodo/Sam (LOTR), Harry/Draco (HP), and Bill/Laura (BSG).

So I'm chatting with Ally, and there's a minute or two of silence on her part, and then...

Ally: Um... I think we just had an earthquake.

Eeep. She was right.

Now, I really like the West (Left!) Coast. But I kinda prefer our nice, more-or-less predictable natural disasters over here on the East Coast.

I don't think I ever said this, but I did get a new television. Got it at the very beginning of February, in fact. It's a 26" SHARP LCD flatscreen, which I got for a more than decent price at Costco - my brother's best friend is a member and he kindly took me. I love it and so far it works just fine with my old (circa 2000) DVD player. *knocks wood* I've yet to get the cables needed to hook it up to my laptop, but I don't see any need for that in the near future. *touche du bois encore*

Loads of thanks to everyone who gave me advice!

I saw this on [info]taradiane's journal and thought it would be fun to reminisce. Don't know if I'll actually have ten facts, but I do have a few.

Ten Absolutely True Facts About My Relationship with Harry Potter:

(1) It's all Jim Dale's fault. Well. Sort of. In 1999, my parents and brother and I were driving up to the Harrison, NY area to spend Christmas with another family. A few days previous, a friend of my mom's had lent her the first book on tape and insisted she listen to it. So we get on the highway that day and mom pops in the first tape. Ten minutes later, I was both enthralled and laughing my ass off, and have been hooked ever since.

(2) My mom and brother liked it, but not that much. My dad nearly got us lost because he was listening so attentively to the story. My father and I get along fairly well, but we've bonded over this series in a way I couldn't have predicted. The only thing we haven't done together is see any of the movies. I'm not sure he's seen any of them - he prefers to imagine it all, I think.

(3) I bought the second and third books within weeks of each other in 2000. I got GoF at the midnight release, but I hadn't actually planned on doing so. I was out with friends that night and one of them mentioned that she wanted to pick up the new book, so we did. I picked up HBP and DH at midnight releases as well. OotP I'd reserved (worked at a Borders at the time, and we called that one 'the doorstop' because it was huge for a kids book) but happened to see it on sale while waiting to board in an airport and caved.

(4) I have original delivery boxes for HBP and DH and have expressly forbidden anyone from throwing them out. I know, they're a dime a dozen, but they're mine.

(5) I deliberately didn't buy SS because I wanted to have the British version. Mom and I went to London in September '00, and I bought the Philosopher's Stone while we were there. Yes, I did read it on the flight home.

(6) In December '01, I was pissed off because some ass had broken into my car (while I was taking a final for fuck's sakes!) and stolen my cd player plus all of my cds. My boyfriend wasn't into HP but he knew that I was, and surprised me with a little stuffed Hedwig to cheer me up. It worked and I still have 'her'.

(7) I like movie-Ron, but can't stand him in the books. He's such an ass - when it comes down to it, he isn't any better than the Slytherins he hates. Hermione deserves so much better than him, IMO.

(8) I love reading H/D and would probably like reading H/Hr, but in the books I felt Harry would either die while/after killing Voldemort, or be a bachelor after fulfilling his quest. Marrying Ginny and having kids? *rolls eyes* So pat. And she doesn't tell us what he does! I like to think that he'd have a job or life that includes both Wizarding and Muggle aspects.

Last one as I need to leave for work soon...

(9) The one thing that pisses me off about the books is how Rowling treated the Slytherins. Even Draco and Snape, despite their being redeemed in the end. She spends the whole series touting unity and how it's so important that all the Houses work together and befriend students from other schools, but portrays much of Slytherin to be evil or cowardly or worthless. What, none of them had positive qualities, or didn't have Death Eaters for parents? Come on.

1) Comment to this and I will give you 3 people.
2) Post this meme with your answers.
3) Provide pictures and the names of 3 people.
4) Label which you would marry, shag, and throw off a cliff.

[info]wthrwthoutyu gave me Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen Jnr, and Jon Stewart. I'll post the pictures later, but here are my answers.

Marry: Adam. Why? Um, well, he's hot and sweet and caring and seriously, I could go on for hours. But a big plus to me is that he doesn't have kids. Nor does he want any. I love that in a man. Oh, and getting to watch that tush of his on a daily basis? *fans self*

Shag: Larry. Those eyes. That grin. Arrrrrrrrms. And he blushes clear down to his chest. *drools*

Off a cliff: Jon. I love the guy, he's so cute and smart and adorable, but he doesn't get me all lust-addled like the other two do. Sorry, Jon! I'd put a trampoline at the bottom, or give him a parachute. Something to make sure he'd be okay.

Still processing the new album (yeah, I'm a bit slow) but so far the general impression is along the lines of OMG LOVE IT SO MUCH. There are two tracks I don't really like (Unknown Caller and I'll Go Crazy...) but the rest of 'em win. No Line, Magnificent and Moment of Surrender are in an ongoing cage match for favorite song. Magnificent might emerge the victor due to its instant and effortless perfection upon being played live. But then the other two step in and...well. We'll see.

Also, Adam and Larry win at everything ever.

I love it when cats (of any age) get so worked up pouncing on something that they wind up practically on top of it, forelegs and chest on the ground but their butts in the air, tails straight up. And their ears are as forward as can be and all. Just, so damn cute.

Some months ago, I did a did a post about all of the online fandoms I've been in. It should not have taken me so long to fix a rather glaring omission, but I am a magpie, after all.

I left out Battlestar Galactica. I don't know how, but I did. *facepalms* I also left out Master & Commander.

Therefore, additions must be made:

Fandom: Master & Commander
Pairing: Aubrey/Maturin
Read/Write: Read only.
The movie was enthralling and I really wish there'd been a sequel. The books make up for that, though.
Still into it?: There are a few fics that linger with me, and I still go back and re-read the books.

Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Pairings: Lee/Kara
Read/Write: Read only.
I absolutely love this show. I have no idea how it's going to end, but my god has the journey been worth it. I barely read the fic but there are one or two that made a big impression.
Still into it?: Oh, hell yes.

Also, when I said Tony/Ziva was my pairing of choice for NCIS? I lied. I know most slashers go for Gibbs/DiNozzo, and I do see why, but I'm not one of them. I don't have an OTP for that show, but there are three pairings I like to read: Tony/Ziva, Tim/Abby and Tony/Tim. I'm currently all about the latter.

Lazy Sunday, eh? I just wish today's weather could've swapped with yesterday's. Yesterday, while I was cleaning and doing indoor chores, was in the 40's and sunny and breezy. Today, when I've nothing pressing to do, it is cold and raw and cloudy. Bah.

Re: the kitty in my last post, a day or two after I wrote that, it snowed. I put an old shower curtain over the box so it wouldn't get soaked, and I saw that other residents had put food and water out. The cat was a girl, and while she did turn out to be friendly, I kept my distance - I felt bad about that but didn't want to pick up anything from her that could harm Dylan. A few days after that, though, both kitty and the box were gone. I'm going to assume/hope for the best case scenario - she was taken to a vet by someone who adopted her, or to a shelter.
