I'm sorry.

Me, I'm mourning the end of the 360 tour, working, looking for a new apartment, all that fun stuff.

<s>One (1) GA ticket for U2 @ Rogers Centre, Toronto, 11 July 2011.</s>

ETA: My wondrous cousin got back to me to say that she and her sister will duel for the ticket and the winner gets to go with me. Or something, I was too busy squealing with joy/relief to get the exact details. All I know is I'll be seeing the lads and family (without having to sell an organ to afford the airfare, even!), so I'm damned happy.

Ah, Toronto. 'Tis been far too long since I've seen ye...

ten years ago today...

... I was with my friend Seana (no longer on LJ, sadly) in a teeny-tiny club in Buffalo, New York. We were there to see the Headstones, and when they came on, Hugh Dillon was mesmerizing. At one point he said to the crowd, "This is highly inappropriate - there's a little girl in the front row, and I'm about to sing a song about necrophilia."

Yeah, that was me. And yeah, I freaked.

I can't believe it's been ten years. I only saw the band another time, in August of the same year. Last I heard - via hammerhead22, I believe - the Headstones were long defunct, but Mr. Dillon had finally gotten himself together and had a new band. I hope so - that he's finally conquered his demons.

edited 4/28: found the scrap of paper with HD's exact wording jotted down

This quote from the Sherlock episode 'The Great Game' just kills me. I'm cutting for spoilers - character related, not plot - just in case.

Sherlock: Look, it doesn't matter to me who's Prime Minister or who's sleeping with who--
John: *sotto voce* Or whether the Earth goes 'round the Sun...
S: *rolls his eyes* God, not that again, it's not important.
J: Not impor- it's primary school stuff, HOW can you not know that?!
S: If I ever did, I deleted it.
J: *squints* Deleted it?
S: *in his 'how boring your tiny little brains must be' tone* Listen. This *points at head* is my hard drive. It only makes sense to put things in there that are useful. REALLY useful. Ordinary people fill their heads with all kinds of rubbish and that makes it hard to get at the stuff that matters.
If anyone is looking for a show to get into, I cannot recommend the BBC's Wallander highly enough. I've watched 3 of 6 episodes, and it is just...magical. They're based on books by Henning Mankell and set (and actually filmed) in the Swedish town of Ystad. Kenneth Branagh is so very human as the title character, utterly everyday and unremarkable, that you can't help but empathize with him.

Oh, and there's SWEDEN. When can I go to Sweden? It's been added to my 'must-visit' list. Perhaps when I go to Denmark and Norway and Germany...

*sighs*

mini rant ahead

Oh wonderful. Another snow day.

I might've posted about this last winter, so if it sounds familiar I apologize for the bitching.

When there's been a foot of snow and hours of freezing rain, then no, I would rather not have to clear off my car and get to work. So in that respect, I'm glad to hear that both of my places of employment are closed for the day. However, I'm not a full-time employee at either place. I have to log hours to get paid, and snow days take away those hours. POE's are closed -> fewer hours paid -> less $ for bills.

So yeah, I really fucking hate snow days.

Oh look, I've not done one of these in ages...

Can you fill this out without lying?

To do this, copy this entire entry into your journal, delete my answers, type yours then post. Easy peasy!

1. What was the last thing you put in your mouth? Some blueberries.

2. Can you play Guitar Hero? needleandspoon says she's the worst, but that's only because she's never been subjected to my pathetic efforts.

3. Name someone who made you laugh today? Does the cat count? Oh, my brother did.

4. How late did you stay up last night and why? 11-ish?

5. If you could move somewhere else, would you? Depends on if you mean city, state, country, etc. I would like to live in a different apartment.

6. Ever been kissed under fireworks? No, and considering I hate the damn things (fireworks, not kisses), it's unlikely to ever happen.

7. Do you believe exes can be friends? In time, sure.

8. How do you feel about Dr Pepper? Don't think I've ever had it. Not a soda drinker.

9. Who was the last person you took a picture of? My mom and grandmom.

10. Was yesterday better than today? Some days are better than others.

11. Can you live a day without TV? It's heaven! Well, okay, maybe not heaven, but far from hell.

12. Are you upset about anything? It's winter, therefore I am grouchy.

13. Do you think relationships are ever really worth it? Um. Yes?

14. Are you a bad influence? I doubt it, but it'd be cute if someone actually thought I was!

15. Night out or night in? Depends on the company.

16. What items could you not go without during the day? Keys and brain.

17. Who was the last person you visited in the hospital? *squints* If my own brief trip to the ER doesn't count, then I guess my grandfather, in 2003.

18. What does the last text message in your inbox say? "About to have dinner. Will be on in about 30 or 40."

19. How do you feel about your life right now? Meh. Winter sucks.

20. Do you hate anyone? Oh yes.

21. Say you were given a drug test right now, would you pass? Hahahaha, yes.

22. Has anyone ever called you perfect before? Er...don't think so.

23. What song is stuck in your head? Blessed silence.

24. Someone knocks on your window at 2:00 a.m., who do you want it to be? A really hot drummer, a really hot bassist, or someone I know. Or, god forbid, a fireman.

25. Wanna have grandkids before you're 50? No comment.

26. Name something you have to do tomorrow? Pay bills.

27. Do you think too much or too little? I think if I could turn off my thoughts now and again, I'd be a much happier person.

28. Do you smile a lot? I guess?

So since this last leg of the 360 tour is over, I've been going through videos on YouTube. Mostly looking for great shots of my favorite rhythm section, yes, but also enjoying hearing the songs.

I like the new song 'Mercy', even though it took me a minute to decide they weren't covering a Snow Patrol song. Not fond of 'Return of the Stingray Guitar', which took the place of 'Soon' (aka the song formerly known as 'Kingdom') leading into 'Breathe'. And therein lies the problem, my friends. You see, 'Breathe' wasn't played this leg. At all. Not ONCE.

They wanted a new intro, I get that, and I get wanting to change up the setlist. But they dropped 'Breathe', and...and that just ain't right. That's just SAD.

*big, horrified, tearful eyes*

Woefully behind on my flist. Infatuated with Robert Downey Jr. Waiting on the re-scheduled U2 show dates. Seriously considering selling my car and getting a new/newer one. Leery of finding out what airfare to Germany in October would run me. Hoping to see my brother's new house soon.

Why I Will Probably End Up Writing Iron Man Fic, by Naina, age 32.

There is a decided lack of Tony/Rhodey in the Iron Man fandom. Whatever the reason(s) may be, I think that is a crying shame. So I've jotted down some of my thoughts to see if anything will coalesce, and I'd be very, very happy if any comments were made.

Set in the movieverse, for one thing. I paged through a few of the comics in a used bookstore the other day and was still snickering an hour later.

NO Tony/Pepper. Yeah, they were cute and flirty. But any pairing that comes to be dubbed something as nauseatingly precious as 'Pepperony'... I just want no part of it.

Tony Stark in all his obnoxious, redefining-genius, alcoholic glory. I want to see his issues and his demons. I want to know how he realized the palladium was killing him, and his reaction to that. I want to see one of the military guys asking "what the hell is in Mr. Stark's chest?" and the gigantic kerfuffle that ensues, because you KNOW they'll think it's a bomb. And, god, what if they want to get an MRI or CT scan?

The mini arc reactor. Yeah, it looks kinda like an electronic Brita filter, but it's also disturbingly sexy. It keeps the barbs away from his heart, yeah, but what about other parts of his body, like his lungs? Or his spinal cord?

Apparently, I'm a sucker for a guy with a mini-ARC reactor keeping him alive. Who knew?

Just did some heavy editing to my interests list. Took out a lot that I hadn't touched upon in a long time, added things that are more recent. I know I don't post often, period, but having a more up-to-date profile is good.

Now I know who the hell Tony Stark is!

Hello! Yes, I am alive. My class has finished and now I've fewer distractions.

Also, I watched 'Iron Man' for the first time on Thursday (saw the sequel yesterday). And, well, there's that one scene about 2/3 through, where Tony Stark is watching the news while calibrating (I guess? for lack of a better term?) the hand armor and gets pissed off, and realizes that he can use the stabilizers as a propulsion weapon? Starts, I dunno, *whoomp*ing parts of his lab.

And, y'know, I really, really liked Robert Downey Jr. in 'Sherlock Holmes', loved the accent and his acting, but now I'm staring at him on the screen as Stark and thinking holy fucking hell, where have YOU been and who do I have to bribe to get you to stay?!?!

*staggers off to find a sponge to mop up all the drool*

Movie recs, please?

Last week, I posted about having read an admittedly not-very-good biography of Cary Grant, and was all hyped up over the author's suggestion that he was bi, and... Well, I've deleted that post. For one thing, I was curious to see what other readers thought of that particular biography; I cracked up (and winced) when multiple reviews likened it to fanfiction - the kind with a Marty-Stu. Yeah, I thought so, too. Just the way his chin was described gave me the creeps, and if you've read the book, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

So, okay, I've learned my lesson, and have picked up a few more biographies on the guy. Good, well-written ones that were positively reviewed. And I'm starting to watch more of his movies, because before I read that first book, I'd only seen two of them: Bringing Up Baby (years ago, I barely remember it), and The Philadelphia Story (which I adore). Since then, I've watched Arsenic & Old Lace, and loved it.

Which brings me to the subject of this post: what other Cary Grant movies should I watch, and why?
